Congratulations to Career & Technical Education Hospitality and Culinary programs for receiving Hospitality Education Grants from the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association. Grant recipients were recently recognized during an awards ceremony.
Olympia High School’s new NAF Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (represented by instructor David Weigle and CTE career specialist Dianalin Melendez) received $10,000 to renovate space to create a banquet hall, allowing students to apply hospitality and event planning skills they will learn in the academy that will launch next school year.
Wekiva High School’s NAF Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (represented by instructor Chef Chris Bates) received $10,000 to renovate a classroom to create a restaurant-styled space to host events. Culinary students will manage the “restaurant;” creating menus and execute events.
Orange Technical College Mid Florida Campus Hospitality and Culinary Programs (represented by instructors Chefs Felix Perez and Zulma Cintron Alamo) received $4,000 for student scholarships and awards.
Orange County Public Schools Career & Technical Education (represented by Shannon Latimer and Pat Breeding) received $4,500 for its 9th Annual Hospitality & Culinary Competition, in which students demonstrate skills and techniques they have learned in class to industry professionals. The event prepares students to compete in ProStart and Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP) competitions, while giving them real world experience.
Partnerships with community organizations such as CFHLA allows CTE to offer students quality career experiences. Congratulations to all programs. It’s a beautiful thing!
