Orange Technical College’s West Campus recently hosted a Human Services Forum sponsored by Seacoast Bank. The event was held in honor of National Cosmetology Day and Esthetician Day, both occurring in October.
Before the event, students made team spirit posters using keywords associated with Orange Technical College, including mission, vision, collaboration, and the ‘CTE Way.’ Our presenters consisted of community partners and alumni who own businesses or work in the human services industry.
Approximately 80 students from our cosmetology and facials specialty programs were divided into five teams that attended presentations on the following topics that our community partners and alumni hosted:
- Succeeding in the cosmetology industry
- Qualities of ideal employee
- What makes or breaks a job interview
- Marketing yourself
- Benefits of volunteering
- Professionalism on the job
- Do’s and Don’ts of social media
The day ended with a question and answer panel comprised of the human services instructors, Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Fequiere, Ms. Grant, and Ms. Pope, and our presenters, Jenn Linhares, Michelle Lundy, Raeisha Anderson, Jaleesa Ardoin, Jo El Gonzalez, and Teressa Blackie. Thank you to all who helped make this special event possible for students!
