Faculty Spotlight: Darran Caudle

Welcome, Mr. Darran Caudle – Orange Technical College – East Campus’ new Digital Video Technology instructor!

Darran Caudle is a multi-award-winning journalist with over 31.5 years of television news experience.

In 1986, he graduated from the State University at Fredonia, majoring in broadcast journalism.

Throughout his career, Darran has covered major events such as the 2000 elections, Super Bowls, NBA Finals, NCAA national championships, Daytona 500, hurricanes, Casey Anthony Trial, and George Zimmerman Trail, just to name a few.

Darran recently retired as the Chief Photographer at WKMG News6 in Orlando, Florida, where he managed the Editing and Photography staff and worked with Investigative Reporter Mike Deforest.

Mr. Caudle has won several awards, including his 12th Suncoast Emmy Award!

When asked about a pivotal story he’s covered during his career, Darran shared that he worked closely with News6 anchor Matt Austin and producer Dr. Donovan Myrie to convince lawmakers in Tallahassee to change Florida’s Texting and Driving law. This hard work paid off with a new law prohibiting drivers from Texting and Driving. In 2020, he and his team were awarded the Service to America Award for Television Large Market. He was also awarded an Emmy alongside his News Director, Allison McGinley, and former News Anchor, Jackie London.

His advice to aspiring journalists is, “You are as good as your last story. Have fun, learn, and make a difference when you have an opportunity. Be fair and accurate, and don’t wait for someone to give you an opportunity to excel. Be a leader, not a follower. Hard work pays off.”

We are excited to welcome Mr. Caudle to Orange Technical College and have his expert knowledge help our students succeed.
