On March 29, 2024, the Leadership Orange Class XIII visited Orange Technical College for their 7th session covering the various facets of the school system. At our main campus, the class members heard from Executive Leader Dr. Rosa Grant and Director of Marketing Richard Parker Antoine. The duo shared the history and vision of OCPS Career and Technical Education, highlighting programs such as Adult General Education, Apprenticeship opportunities, and career pipelines.
Class XIII was split into two groups, led by Senior Director Dr. Felecia Boyd and Assistant Director Michelle Berggren, to get a behind-the-scenes look at what Orange Technical College offers. The groups alternated between hands-on demonstrations of the Surgical Technology and Dental Assisting programs.
In the Dental Assisting demonstration, the Leadership Orange class donned PPE gowns and masks as they made teeth molds alongside students. During their time with the Surgical Technology program, the participants were invited to try out the LapSim machine, a state-of-the-art training simulator.
In each of these programs, Class XIII members could talk to students and instructors to gain more first-hand knowledge of the benefits of attending a technical college. Questions such as “How do you help students who need to work while attending school?” and “How does CTE benefit K-12 students?” were answered in detail, giving the participants a more informed outlook on this aspect of the Orange County Public School System.
We’re grateful for those who attended this Leadership Orange session, which allowed us to spread awareness of Orange Technical College and Career and Technical Education.
