My name is Gialam Tran. I graduated from OTC East in the Enterprise Desktop and Mobile Support program.
As a Colonial High School student, I knew that I loved computers. Still, I was hesitant to pursue a career in information technology because I didn’t know what jobs were available. As I got closer and closer to the end of my high school career, I was introduced to Orange Technical College. I learned about all the programs they offered and how easy getting started was. I decided to pursue a career certificate program and have not regretted a single thing. From the classmates that became friends to the teachers that became mentors, this school helped me in the long run.
As an alumnus, I appreciate every opportunity that helped me progress throughout my career due to OTC, including the numerous certifications I earned and an internship with Orange County Public Schools. With OCPS, I was able to intern under their IT administrator. The internship training was my first-ever real-world experience within this field. The experience I gained throughout the internship was why I landed my current internship at Orange County Utilities with the job of IT Specialist Intern!
Another valuable experience I gained with OTC was my presidential election for the SkillsUSA high school branch. I was able to show off my leadership skills and improve them, but this experience also helped me land another internship with the Orange County Administrator. I worked under Commissioner Moore as a “Junior Aide,” which helped me with my leadership, management, and customer service skills.
Currently, I am a UCF student pursuing Information Technology and Business Administration. Thanks OTC!
