I am a 2017 medical assisting graduate.
I am also a first-generation, high school, technical college, and traditional college graduate.
Growing up, I always strived to do my best in everything I do. My parents and my sister are my greatest supporters. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am now.
I always had the desire to be in the medical field, but did not know where to start. During my sophomore year of high school at Ocoee High School, I learned about the dual enrollment program at Orange Technical College. I noticed that the technical college offered medical assisting and signed on for the upcoming term.
I attended the OTC – West Campus during my junior and senior year, as well as attending Valencia College, meaning DOUBLE dual enrollment! The medical assisting course helped me realize that I belong in the medical profession. Mrs. Kerr from OTC was an amazing instructor who motivated me to continue learning and growing in this profession.
I graduated high school in the “Top 6” while being in the National Honor Society. I also graduated from the medical assisting program while being in the National Technical Honor Society. I also completed my associate’s degree at Valencia College, but I wanted more, so I applied to Valencia College nursing program. It was a rigorous course, but with skills I learned at OTC, I was prepared to succeed at the tasks given during the program.
After a year and a half, I can finally say I am a 2022 graduated nurse working at a wonderful hospital! I give my all to help those in their time of need and celebrate in their joy. I am still continuing my path in this profession and seeing where it will take me.
As I look back now, I can truly say that it all started with that “big green button.”
