Preparing Students for a Non-Traditional Path

OCPS Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins was the featured speaker at the September 19th luncheon event for the East Orlando Chamber of Commerce. Her topic, “Preparing Students for a Non-Traditional Path”, focused on Career and Technical Education. Dr. Jenkins talked about the tremendous growth of students enrolled in CTE programs, industry certifications earned, NAF Academies, Tech Express, Agriculture and Apprenticeship programs. She mentioned the partnership with Dr. Phillips Charities supporting the first LPN program on a high school campus at Jones High School. The 4Rivers Foundation was also highlighted for their work with our schools. Dr. Jenkins’ closing remarks recognized the 85 years that Orange Technical College has been making history and educating our community.

Special thanks to Andrew Cole, President/CEO of the East Orlando Chamber, pictured with Superintendent Jenkins, Robin Oliver and Dr. Cap Jadonath, Senior Director for OTC Winter Park and Avalon Campuses. Andrew is a strong supporter of all that we do at Orange Technical College and also serves on the School Advisory Council for OTC Winter Park and Avalon Campuses. Chamber members were enthusiastic in their support for our work and asked what they could do to provide additional support to students. Orange County Mayor Elect Jerry Demings, long a supporter of ours, stood proudly by the green button in support of Changing Lives Through Education.
