If You Want to Improve Your English
When you don’t feel comfortable with a language, it can be difficult to do everyday things. If you are a parent with children in school, you might worry about talking to their teacher. You might be afraid of saying the wrong thing when shopping for groceries or ordering food in a restaurant.
English lessons for adults can help you improve your English. Students in an Adult ESOL class work on their speaking and listening skills as well as reading and writing. The class is for people over the age of 16 who have limited English skills.
If You Want to Enroll in Technical School or College
Is it your dream to go to college or technical school? If so, an Adult ESOL College and Career Readiness class can help your dream come true.
ESOL students in a college and career readiness course are advanced speakers of English. They can communicate well in everyday situations but might not feel prepared to sign up for career training or college-level classes in English.
In a career and college readiness program, you will focus on improving your speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
If You Want to Start a New Career
You might have a job you love but might also dream of something bigger and better. ESOL classes can give you the English skills you need to find a job that pays more or that has better hours.
Depending on your ESOL level, a basic-level English course might be the place to start. If you are a more advanced speaker of English, a college and career readiness class can help you polish your language skills and impress a future employer.
If You Want Additional Support
Perhaps you’ve achieved your goal of enrolling in college or technical school. Or, maybe you are working in a job you enjoy. But you have difficulty understanding your teacher or co-workers sometimes.
An English Literacy for Career and Technical Education class might be right for you. The class is designed for people who are in school and who are intermediate or advanced English speakers. The class content is geared toward helping you gain English skills that will help you in your college career.
What You’ll Learn in ESOL Classes
English learning classes focus on the aspects of using a language. You will have time to practice speaking English in class. You can also build your listening skills by listening to your teacher and classmates.
In English classes for career training or college preparation, you will spend some time building your reading skills as well as your writing skills.
Find the Right ESOL Courses for You
It is very important that you take the right level of ESOL class. If the class is too hard for you, you will struggle and might want to give up. If the class is too easy, you might get bored and will not learn much.
Before you enroll in an ESOL class at Orange Technical College, you will take a placement test. You will be tested on your reading skills and listening skills. The lower of your scores will determine which ESOL level is right for you.
Once you know your level, think about what your English language goals are. If you are an advanced student who is already in a career training program, sign up for an ESOL course that provides additional instruction. If you are new to English or don’t feel confident in your speaking, reading or listening abilities, an Adult ESOL course can be a good choice.
Orange Technical College has ESOL classes at our five campuses. The classes meet in the mornings, afternoons or evenings on weekdays. Learn more about how to sign up for a class today.
